Presenting the generation that grew up looking at the world through rose-tinted spectacles,sometimes literally, this series materialises the perceived vanities of the millennial.
Adorning the bubblegum pink palette of youth, the images begin their narrative characterising a girl, mobile phone in hand, pondering perhaps her first lover. With the passing of time she changes her skin to that of an adult, before revealing the apparent result of a tantrum - a wine spattered wall. Like an instagram cut-out, the character comes to represent the idealised femininity of digital cultures, where popularity & fame are the norm. The work, however, intends to provoke a deeper narrative, addressing the all-too dismissible contemporary condition: the
disillusionment from our promised success. Incorporating identity as both subject and object, the images present a dichotomous mix of cuteness, sadness and anger. Alluding to the most profound effect of millenial syndrome, it’s effect on our mental health.
